leaders of the North-Caucasian Federal District visit Derbent at background of election scandals


The importance of preservation of monuments of history and architecture was stated by the regional leaders of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) who visited Derbent with the Russian presidential envoy to the NCFD at the background of the acts of vandalism, committed on January 8, 9 and 11; however, the agenda of the visit, according to information from official sources, did not assume the visiting of the sites of vandalism.

All the heads of the subjects of the NCFD, except for the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov, visited Derbent within a two-day working visit to Dagestan, which began on January 12.

Derbent was visited by Sergey Melikov, the presidential envoy to the NCFD, and the heads of Dagestan, North Ossetia, Karachay-Cherkessia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Ingushetia, and the Stavropol Territory, respectively: Ramazan Abdulatipov, Teimuraz Mamsurov, Rashid Temrezov Yuri Kokov, Yunus-Bek Evkurov and Vladimir Vladimirov.

On January 10 Derbent hosted a protest action against Imam Yaraliev, the Mayor of Derbent. Among the claims put forward by the protesters was the poor state of Derbent in its pre-jubilee period and complaints that city residents in fact have no real opportunities to vote and elect publicly the authorities that they would like, the "Chernovik" reports.
