Court finds Nalchik resident guilty of involvement in IAF in Syria

The Nalchik City Court has sentenced a local resident to 1.5 years of imprisonment for involvement in the armed conflict in Syria on the side of the militants.
In July 2014, Sergey Kamenny, the head of the FSB Department for Kabardino-Balkaria, reported that more than 60 residents of the republic were listed as members of international terrorist organizations operating in Syria. By the end of December 2014, 85-150 natives of Kabardino-Balkaria were fighting in Syria. This was reported by the law enforcement bodies of the republic.
The Court has found out that in 2014, when in Syria, the defendant joined the illegal armed formation (IAF) called "Imarat Kavkaz" led by Salakhuddin Shishani. There, the Nalchik resident was given a submachine gun, and once a day, he stood up for the protection of the house and yard where the militants lived.
However, in March 2014, the defendant left the "Imarat Kavkaz" and joined a squad of the "Islamic State" acting in the territory of Syria. After that, for about one month, the defendant took part in military operations against the Syrian armed forces.
In May 2014, the defendant transported ammunition and got in a road traffic accident, and because of that fact, he was not able to take part in hostilities. In August 2014, he entered the territory of Azerbaijan. Then, he moved to Belarus, from where he was deported to Russia.
