Dagestan: Resident of Novy Khushet states detention of her husband by power agents

Novy Khushet

The detention of Akhmed Akhmedov, a builder from Novy Khushet, may be associated with an attack on an OMON (riot police) employee, during which two persons were killed, said his wife. The woman has turned to rights defenders asking to provide her with an advocate.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 21, in the village of Novy Khushet, an attack was committed on an OMON employee, during which he was wounded, and his relative, who was also a policeman, and his 15-year-old son were killed.

Akhmed Akhmedov, born in 1964, a resident of Novy Khushet, was detained on August 26, following a search of his house, said his wife Sidrat Akhmedova. According to her story, she was on that day with the family of the son of the OMON fighter, who was killed on August 21.

"They are our relatives; and I was at condolences in the casualty's house. My husband and our son Magomed, a disabled child, were in our house," said Akhmedova.

Later she learned from her son that their house was visited by masked men; they took the boy and his father into the yard, asked questions, after which they found cartridges in the attic. The woman is sure that the ammunition was planted.

Nobody from the police has contacted Sidrat Akhmedova; and on August 27, she complained to the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial". The woman said that her husband is innocent, and she needed an advocate, whom her family cannot hire.
