Members of the Circassian community in Turkey have addressed to the Rector of the Adyg State University (ASU) a petition, in which they have expressed their concern about the ASU's decision to unilaterally terminate the cooperation with Turkish institutions of higher education.
The relations between Russia and Turkey have deteriorated after on November 24, the Russian Su-24 bomber was attacked in Syria by Turkish fighter planes. On November 28, Vladimir Putin signed a decree on special economic measures against Turkey.
The information reporting that the Adyg State University had terminated its cooperation with universities in Turkey entered the SMS-service of the"Caucasian Knot" on November 28.
The petition of the Circassian community in Turkey, addressed to Rashid Khunagov, Rector of the Adyg State University, is published on the platform "Change.org". The petition emphasizes that the Circassian language belongs to the endangered languages in Turkey.
"This problem is in sight of UNESCO. For the first time, Russian specialists organized training of the Circassian language in the universities in Turkey. And that fact is of huge humanitarian, social and political value," the authors emphasize.
Asker Sokht, Chairman of the organization "Adyge Khase" for the Krasnodar Territory, treats as lawlessness the decision of the ASU's leaders and the instruction of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science to terminate cooperation with the universities of Turkey.
