Muslims in Russia's North Caucasus Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria prison has started a hunger strike to protest bad conditions inside the detention center as well as banning them from performing Islamic rituals.
The news was revealed after around 50 prisoners in Detention Center No.1 in Kabardino-Balkaria's capital, Nalchik, were able to send a text message to several local media outlets
According to Radio Free Europe, the message cited their complaints from impediments on the performance of Islamic rituals, nighttime electricity outages, and preventing inmates from receiving parcels from their families.
The strikers noted that such restrictions aggravated with the approach on the holy fasting month of Ramadan, due to start next June 28.
There has been no official confirmation about the hunger strike from detention center officials.
