Detentions
On January 20, on the highway Chegem-Nalchik, a man, who caused policemen's suspicion, was stopped for inspection. An improvised explosive device (IED) and a hand grenade were found on him. Due to the risk of transportation, it was decided to destroy the IED in place, while the man was brought to the police station.
On January 25, two villagers of Tarskoe in North Ossetia were detained on suspicion of selling firearms. According to the police, the villagers, aged 25 and 28, tried to sell, in particular, a Kalashnikov submachine gun, sawed-off double-barrelled rifle and a fuse of hand fragmentation grenades. The opening of a criminal case against the detainees is being considered.
Kidnappings
On January 22, relatives of Alikhan Tochiev, a native of Ingushetia, who was killed in Nalchik, reported that he had been kidnapped two days before the special operation in Nalchik on January 18; and his body showed signs of torture. They deny the official version about Alikhan's links with militants from Syria and do not believe that he was killed in the course of an armed clash.
