KBR resident adjudges compensation for unlawful detention

The Supreme Court (SC) of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) has obliged the Russia's Ministry of Finance to pay a compensation of 500,000 roubles to Anzor Koshiev for his illegal detention and criminal prosecution.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Anzor Koshiev, a resident of the village of Kakhun, Urvan District was detained on May 31, 2012, and charged with illegal possession of firearms and narcotic drugs. Koshiev's relatives reported that he was tortured by the police.
The Collegium of the SC of the KBR has considered the appeal complaint lodged by the Department for the KBR of the Russia's Federal Treasury against the decision of the Nalchik City Court on collection for the moral harm of the amount of 500,000 roubles for the illegal Koshiev's criminal prosecution, and upheld the decision of the City Court. This was reported by the advocate Eva Chanieva.
It follows from the decision of the SC that Koshiev was kept in detention for two months; and for 16 months and 28 days he was under recognizance not to leave. Also, "bodily injuries that could be caused, among other things, by torturing with electric current" were found on Koshiev's body.
"Policemen suspected Anzor of aiding illegal armed formations (IAFs); while I was forced to evidence against him," Islam Shibzukhov, Anzor's cousin told the court.
