Last week at least 8 persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week from July 13 to July 19, 2015, at least eight people were killed in the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The death toll includes two law enforcers – one in Dagestan and one in Kabardino-Balkaria, and six alleged members of illegal armed formations (IAFs) – three in Kabardino-Balkaria and three in Dagestan.

Attacks on law enforcers

On July 14, an employee of the local prosecutor's office was found killed in the doorway of his apartment building in the neighbourhood named Iskozh in the city of Nalchik. Two young men are suspected of committing the murder. According to preliminary data, they were waiting for the employee in the doorway, who was on his way to work. The casualty was Marat Tokov, an employee of the division of internal security of the Office. Earlier, Marat Tokov worked at the Centre to Combat Extremism of the Kabardino-Balkaria's MIA.

On July 17, policemen of the Chief Department of the Russian MIA for the NCFD were conducting, together with agents from other Dagestani law enforcement bodies, their operative-search actions in the Derbent District of the republic. In the outskirt of the village of Gedzhukh, they tried to stop a Lexus car with two men inside for inspection; but they opened fire from inside at law enforcers. They were killed by return fire. There are no victims among law enforcers.

On July 19, at about 5:00 a.m. Moscow time, in the forest near the village of Akka, Tabasaran District of Dagestan, an armed clash broke out with a group of aliens, who opened fire at policemen. During the clash, one alleged militant was killed by return fire, and a riot policeman was fatally wounded.

Special and counterterrorist operations

On July 14, at 4:30 a.m. Moscow time, in the Baksan District of Kabardino-Balkaria, the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime was introduced between the city of Baksan and the village of Dugulubgey. Power agents found a militants' base there with suspected militants inside. Three of them were killed in the shootout. Law enforcers had no casualties and wounded persons. After the end of the CTO, the operative headquarters of Kabardino-Balkaria made a decision to cancel the CTO regime at 9:00 a.m. Moscow time. When inspecting the adjacent territory, power agents found a grenade and several submachine guns and pistols. Also, near the site of the shootout, they found a disguised three-room dugout. The casualties have been pre-identified as Boris Batyrov, 41; Kasbulat Dyshekov, 30; and Rustam Beslaneev, 23, all of them – residents of the Baksan District, who were, according to law enforcers, members of the so-called "North-Eastern Sector" of the local underground, who operate in the territory of the Baksan and Zolsky Districts of Kabardino-Balkaria.
