The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 6, 2010, Anas Pshikhachev, then Chairman of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) of Kabardino-Balkaria, reported on the preparations for the construction of a multipurpose Islamic centre in Nalchik. In September 2012, the construction of the Islamic centre was suspended for indefinite period. Meanwhile, the public expressed its concerns about the creation of such a centre.
In September 2014, the Islamic University, which until then was located in a former kindergarten building, was granted a new four-storey building in Kalyuzhny Street in Nalchik. At the same time, it was decided to grant the unfinished Islamic centre building t
o the Children's Academy of Art, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
Originally, the construction of the Islamic educational and cultural centre was a mistake, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Aslan Beshto, the leader of public organization "Kabardian Congress".
"There was no need for such a majestic grandiose complex of buildings. It was completely rejected by the general public," Aslan Beshto has noted.
