NCFD residents note sharp rise in foodstuff prices since start of year


On the average, the foodstuff price growth in the regions of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) since the beginning of 2016 made no more than 20 percent, said officials from regional authorities and statistical bodies. But, according to their data, in Kabardino-Balkaria and Stavropol Territory, the jump of prices was much higher. The main rise has touched fresh fruits and vegetables, said local residents.
From the start of the year, foodstuff prices in Chechnya rose markedly, locals told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. Local entrepreneurs have also noted a significant decrease of their revenues from the stores selling foodstuffs.
The increase in prices was explained at the Ministry of Territorial Economic Development and Trade of Chechnya by the unstable situation in the foreign exchange market and seasonal factors.
Since the start of 2016, prices on basic foodstuffs in shops and marketplaces of the capital of Dagestan almost doubled, said residents of Makhachkala.
Foodstuff prices in Karachay-Cherkessia have increased significantly since the start of the year, but the food at affordable prices may be bought under actions at shops or directly from agricultural producers, said residents of the republic.
Since the start of the year, Ingushetia has not seen a sharp rise in foodstuff prices, said Milana Malsagova, an expert of the Division of Pricing of the Ministry of Economy of Ingushetia.
A pensioner named Stanislav, a resident of Stavropol, said that this year he began feeling a deficit of finance, which is only enough to buy foodstuffs.
