President of Abkhazia Raul Khadjimba refused to resign

"The President of Abkhazia Raul Khadjimba does not intend to resign", the first deputy of the administration of head of Abkhazia Dmitry Shamba, said to the news agency RIA Novosti.

“For the sake of reaching a national agreement and maintaining stability, the president considers it necessary to discuss all issues at the negotiating table,” Shamba said.

He also recalled that Khajimba promised the opposition to wait for the decision of the Supreme Court following the presidential election and act only in the legal field. However, according to Shamba, they realized the futility of their claims in court and decided to move on to radical measures.

In turn, the leader of the opposition, deputy Aslan Bzhaniya, said he was ready to talk with the president, but no relevant proposals had been received so far.

Earlier, on January 9, an opposition rally was held in Sukhum that disagreed with the results of the presidential election in the country. Initially, the participants had to gather at the courthouse, but in the end they went to the administration building. Later, the protesters broke down the door in the building of the presidential administration, and about 200 people went inside, after which they moved to the part of the building where the parliament is located. All of them demanded the resignation of Raul Khajimba. The power structures of the republic were transferred to the state of emergency.
