Kabardino-Balkaria Lawmaker Shot Dead by Unknown Gunmen

Unidentified gunmen shot dead a lawmaker of the Russian Kabardino-Balkaria republic's parliament in his home, a law enforcement source said Saturday.

The politician was also a doctor, heading a hospital in Nalchik, the capitol of Kabardino-Balkaria.

"The unknown gunmen entered the household of Hadis Bottayev, the chief physician of the republican hospital… and shot him dead," the source told RIA Novosti.

According to the Russian Investigative committee, Bottayev was shot in the head Saturday morning. A criminal investigation into the shooting was launched.

Bottayev, 50, was elected lawmaker of the Kabardino-Balkaria republic from the United Russia party last September.
